Almost a Week at the Cottage from The Cozy Quilter

Christine and I spent most of a week at her cottage and did lots of sewing, chatting, watching movies and eating good food! It was a bit buggy outside so we were mostly inside. Christine has lots of bird feeders which she kept well stocked all week so there were lots of birds and other critters to see out the window.

But first, the sewing! I added yellow binding to my colour challenge quilt and, over a few days, finished hand stitching it down. The dock was a good place to take some pictures.

Placemats, HST's and the Hooking is Done! from The Cozy Quilter

I went to the guild sewing day this week and worked on my pitcher plant rug hooking project the whole time. I managed to finish all of the hooking! The first picture below was after I steamed it and the second picture was taken before steaming. It really makes a difference, making it look much smoother afterwards!

I have started the wool edging but forget how to turn the corner and will have to consult with one of my hooking friends on how to do this. The wool for the edging is a dark purple, even though it looks black ...

Starting a New Quilt from The Cozy Quilter

I signed up for a subscription to The Thread House Academy this year. It is a series of online classes, one per month, led by Lynne Goldsworthy, Karen Lewis and Jo Avery. One of the projects is a modern sampler quilt with three types of blocks released every four months. The first three blocks were released at the beginning of August so I have pulled my fabrics--navy, aqua, and magenta prints and a light gray on white print for the background. Modern Sampler Done! from The Cozy Quilter

I started making blocks for this modern sampler quilt in October 2020. I had to buy some of the gray background fabric for the blocks but the rest of the fabrics were in my stash--the white fabric has glasses on it and appears in every block. Easter Greetings from Finn! We had our family Easter Dinner on Friday afternoon and Finn dressed up for the occasion!

Progress on Several Fronts from The Cozy Quilter

I managed to do some knitting or sewing or cross stitching every day this week! My Gross Morne scarf is now 1 foot (31 cm) long. I have decided to include the measurement each time I show it as it is hard to tell from the photo alone if I have made any progress. I still have a ways to go on this project!

Architecture Class, Borders, Sunflowers, Christmas Bazaar and Knitting from The Cozy Quilter

Last Saturday, I took a zoom class with David Owen Hastings. For the project, we were to each choose a picture of a building or structure to inspire our quilts. My husband and I visited Dunnottar Castle in Scotland a few years ago and I took lots of pictures there. The castle is mostly a ruin and my picture was of the end wall of the chapel. Knitting, Sewing and a New Quilt Vault! from The Cozy Quilter

I have accomplished a lot this week, but not not much of it was in the sewing room! I did do some mending, made a quilt back for a comfort quilt, and sewed a hanging sleeve on a gift. I delivered 113 placemats to Meals on Wheels organizers on behalf of the Oxford Quilter's Guild and volunteered at the local Christmas Hamper program for a day (this is a weekly event until Christmas). Stitching Report from The Cozy Quilter

I finished off the walking foot quilting on my London Modern Guild HST BOM quilt this week. The orange diamond was my focal point and the quilting lines ran parallel to each side of the diamond, creating an X of parallel lines and other areas of cross hatching off each corner of the diamond. I used orange thread for the quilting and even though this is a relatively small quilt, I went through 3 bobbins of thread!

The orange binding is leftover from the HST's. I just love those seagulls!
